La La Land: In Pursuing Your Dreams

This season most dazzling movie of the year is all about pursuing your passion and dreams no matter what it takes. At the 74th Golden Globe Awards, the film set a record for the most awards won by a single film, winning seven awards: Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Director, Best Actor (for Gosling), Best Actress (for Stone), Best Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Original Song (“City of Stars“). Oh yeah, I watched the movie. I am always hopelessly romantic.
La La Land is a 2016 American romantic musical comedy-drama film written and directed by Damien Chazelle and starring Ryan Gosling (The Notebook) and Emma Stone (The Amazing Spiderman.) The plot follows a musician and an aspiring actress who meet and fall in love in Los Angeles. The film’s title refers both to the city of Los Angeles and to the idiom for being out of touch with reality.
In reality and as per successful friends and VIPs we interviewed, a lot of people will find your ideas from the start crazy, there will be critics, tons of them and non believers. As what Confucius said,” Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
But same as what happened in the story with Sebastian, the need of the money is greater to sustain the passion, are you also going to grab that opportunity? In most cases, yes, we need to have something to fuel the passion and that’s doing what is the best first for the meantime and that’s accepting a job even though our heart is not 100 percent in it. As for Mia (Stone) is working as a Barista inside the Warner brothers Studio while attending different casting calls around the area.
Passion is the key to success and this is according to David Lucatch, founder and CEO of Yappn.Corp., a real time translation service. According to him, “the people I have seen achieve the greatest success in their professional and personal lives are passionate people that lead, support, and mentor others with that zeal and zest for the work and people.”
Here are three reasons passion leads to success;
- You became a risk taker- You like to prove that you can do it and being a risk taker is what separates a dreamer from a doer. The big difference of a doer is that, he is ready for failure and he accepted the fact that in all his undertakings, failure is the way to achieve success. That’s how a successful person starts anyway.
- Passion creates excitement- Check your friends or colleagues with you with twinkling eyes every time you are telling them about your big plans. The excitement is contagious and can be shared and creates organized value. These people with you who are excited are usually those who will be with you during the failure period and those who will be with you too during your success. You became their mentor and you got yourself your own cheering squad.
- Passionate people are those crazy ones- The most passionate individuals are often those we are calling nuts. The most gifted and successful artists, entrepreneurs, scientists, marketers or even politicians, you name it, often said to be crazy. As per the genius of this generation, Steve Jobs, “Those crazy ones are those who can do.” Being passionate crazy is all about pushing things to their limits, these people became limitless and yes, they even keeps on talking about it, check their Facebook statuses and their slogans. Risking everything to get your hands on that shimmering prize.
The same as what happened to Mia in that wonderful and award winning movie, someone helped her. Without Seb convincing her to audition after that flop one woman show she did, she will never be successful as an actress. She grabbed that opportunity of the lifetime. In the movie, it’s not also about how many followers you had, remember that the person who gave Mia a chance is one of those few people who watched her one woman play? That person is there for a reason, maybe checking a newbie for their big movie and yes, that gave Mia the door for her success.
LESSON
Don’t give up your passion. Create impact and pursue your dreams no matter what. Don’t forget that you are the only one that is responsible for what you can and cannot do. Everyone is different and not everyone has the passion to succeed. Don’t just think and dream, do. Just like Mia, doing a lot of auditions and grabbed that opportunity. So, how do you pursue your dreams?
