Just had a talk with my cousin and I told her to attend a lot of conferences that can give ideas and gain networks. She said that some events are not related to her industry, I told her, the point is the network too. You need to be with leaders to be one. From my interview last time with the General Manager of Travelbook, he mentioned about the importance of improving one self, that way, it’s not only getting knowledge and giving you more skills but it’s also about sharing your skills to the company you are in. I would still say that the educated and informed employees are better than those who are not, as what they say, ignorance is more expensive than that Php 192K training I am eyeing under Gallup for 4-1/2 days. yeah, would love to attend that.

As what Steve Jobs said before, “Don’t settle..”, though it doesn’t mean that being ordinary is wrong, it might be about taking chances, taking risk, following your bliss than just being an ordinary IT practitioner. But not everyone has the potential to be great, unlike, Steve Jobs.

“You’ve got to find what you love. And what is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill the large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all the matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.” This famous lines from Steve Jobs Stanford speech I received from my Brother in Law, Thor,  who is now living his American dream. An IT Genius same as my husband. Thor, actually gave me the first book I will never forget, HTML for Dummies. That was in 1998, yeah, I would call it, the backbone on why I am doing digital now. If others can do it, why shouldn’t you right?

Anyway, let’s go back to my cousin, I told her there are lot’s of strategies to be a Manager and first thing you need to do faster is to apply for that position. Oh I definitely did that. Ok, yeah, you want to be a manager so apply for that position. You never know, the skills needed of that other companies are with you while you are settled in your current position and just waiting for two more years when that position will be opened in the company you are in. I am not saying you just need to jump from one company to another, my point is the satisfaction and taking risk, in order to solve your doubts and to achieve the position you need,  do something about it.

In a corporate industry, ever wonder why there are associates who are in their positions for more than 3 years already while others, newly graduated students got their managerial positions just in a span of 1 year? There might be a difference on what you do. Check the following tips to take to become a manager;

  1. Don’t stay quiet, shout it out load that you have an aspirations to be a manager.
  2. Become a mentor. you need to have followers from the start.
  3. Strengthen your skills. Attend seminars, training, expo or summits. You need to have a difference.

When we mentioned about managers, it synonym with leader too. Leaders are overseeing a large number of people and holds particular importance for maintaining business success. Becoming a manager can be an excellent way to advance your career and prepare you to more bigger opportunities. Nobody starts from top, even Steve Jobs.
