I am into continuous education. I love school. Yes, unlike when I am still young, it’s killing me. I am sure that’s what the youngsters today felt especially every Monday morning. At around age 27 years old, I took Masters in Management Major in Engineering Management, I almost aced all subjects, it’s different. I keep on raising my hand, love the reporting and doing presentations in front of my classmates who were during that time were all professionals or entrepreneurs. My objective is to have 1.00 flat and mostly yes, I achieved. I am even supposed to be a Magna Cum Laude until I decided to have a leave of absence for one semester because I decided to run for a government position. I preferred then to help my country over receiving the highest award in school Well, that’s how it goes. Still loved what I did, Public Speaking during campaigning.
Yes, the topic here is Public Speaking and not all are fond in doing it. As what they say, the most feared activity is not death but public speaking. According to the dictionary, “Glossophobia or speech anxiety, is the most common fear people have. Throughout primary school, it is easy to be the student who sits in the back of the classroom and avoids raising his or her hand to dodge such situations. But in the working world, public speaking is a vital skill to have and to hone. It effects simple, everyday interactions between coworkers, bosses and employees, marketing professionals and clients, etc., and it can have an enormous impact on your career path and your level of success in your industry.”
The popularity of Social Media with 1.87 Billion users for Facebook alone, helps some businesses to target users. Digital Marketing is the key. Though you don’t need to be a public speaker online, shouting out loud with the right content online is very important. It’s same as Public Speaking though you need to have confidence. Communication allows us to form connections, influence decisions, and motivate change. Without communication skills, the ability to progress in the working world and in life, itself, would be nearly impossible. As what they say, the moment you open your eyes in the morning, you are communicating already with your peers.
There are 3 tips in public speaking;
1. Confidence- Don’t ever forget that most of those participants or audience who are there to listen to you doesn’t have any idea about your topic or else they will not be there. Be confident but of course, you need to know what you are talking about. Be ready.
2. Talk from the heart- It is much better to share your experience about the subject matter, it’s easier. You will not go wrong than memorizing things that never happen. The participants will feel it too.
3. Plan appropriately, Practice, Engage with your audience, Pay attention to body language, Think positively, Cope with your nerves and Listen or Watch recordings of your speeches
There you go. Public Speaking is as easy as 1-2-3. If other’s can do it, so can you. Just follow the three steps with your own creativity. Put humor into it.
