Dress for Success: The Attire Guideline
Business attire may come with different style in every workplace. An employee may come to the office with jeans and t-shirt, while another wears a suit in formal style. Oftentimes, workplaces have a dress code, whether it’s formal, casual, or smart casual. However, if you want to fit, you need to adhere to some dress code that you may wear to an event or meeting clients. If your workplace does have this dress code, we have listed some guidance for you.
Formal Business Attire
Formal workplace expects employees to dress in a neutral-coloured attires and formal accessories such as a tie for men. If you’re working in a formal workplace, be mindful about what you wear for success.
Men:
- Dark or neutral-coloured suit
- White or light-coloured collared shirt
- Conservative tie
- Cufflinks
- Leather belt
Women
- Dark or neutral-coloured suit
- White or light-coloured collared shirt or blouse
- Skirt at knee length or pants
- Stockings or tights
- Neutral-coloured closed-toe shoes
Smart-Casual Attire
Smart-casual business attire is less formal but still professionally presentable. For men, you don’t have to wear a tie or formal as in formal business attire. For this look, both men and women can wear outerwear like blazer or cardigan. Have a minute to try on these attires and select which suits you:
Smart casual attire for men:
- Smart jacket or blazer
- Button down shirt in plain colours or patterns
- Trousers or chinos
- Brogues or oxfords
Smart casual attire for women:
- Coloured or patterned blouse
- Cardigan or casual blazer
- Neat pants or skirt
- Dress at knee length
- Closed or open-toe shoes
Casual Business Attire
Smart-casual and casual attire is slightly different. To feel good in a casual dress code, looking professionally neat is still important although you’re combining jeans and t-shirts. Picture these attires when you’re working in a casual-dressing office, such as in a creative agency:
Men:
- T-shirt, casual collared-shirt/jumper
- Dark denim, chinos
- Stylish sneakers or loafers
Women
- T-shirt, jumper or blouse
- Dark denim jeans, mid-length skirt or shorts
- Sneakers or sandals
